no need to be shy you’re lookin’ too pretty
please tell me what should i do.

I like it when other people do my boosterism for me!

The Explosion of (Soda)Pop’s Serving Size

Just in case you didn’t know it before, we’re big and getting bigger as a country.  Its not just our people, its our food, and our portions.  The economist in me thinks this is great evidence for a tax on soda and sugar rich beverages?

It’s a Sad Day in America…

Because Maurice Sendak has died.  He followed in the lovely tradition of Janusz Korczak by not glorifying children or talking down to them but engaging them in conversation because he believed that they had value and had something to say that was important.  I used to be able to recite In the Night Kitchen through and through by heart because I loved it and heard it oh so many times.  Where are those wild things, Mr. Sendak?

“I have nothing now but praise for my life. I’m not unhappy. I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can’t stop them. They leave me and I love them more. … What I dread is the isolation. … There are so many beautiful things in the world which I will have to leave when I die, but I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready.”

When I’m not working on future grad school stuff and not writing new songs/perfecting old ones, I like to take rides on my bike.  I brought my camera on this ride though.  I took some pictures of my old school.  Its undergone quite the renovation.  It doesn’t feel quite right to see this new modern structure while my mind still remembers spending 5th and 6th grade in trailers.  Not the best of times since I didn’t really learn 5th grade math (my dad had to teach me in the summer) and was a minority in a 95% African American school.  The area seems a lot nicer than I used to think of it, but that may be more of a reflection of my time at the school than reality.

My favorite pictures from my college graduation this morning!  I am officially an alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh.  I graduated with a BA in Economics & Urban Studies.  As we say, Hail to PITT!
